Welcome to the Intermediate Rper's tutorial. In this small, easy-to-follow tutorial, you will learn some of the more 'veteran' rules of rping.

1) Open-Ended

Of course, Rping means that you will be writing with others via the internet, working together to evolve a story of your cooperative making. In rping, you can learn how to write better, how to read better, at the same time interacting with a story which can be decided by you. Believe it or not, this can help with school, or even if you are personally writing your own fiction/novel at home.

Rping is meant to be open-ended, meaning that anything can happen, nothing is set in stone. Though, for some more important events, such may not be totally applicable.

2) A Neverending Story

Though Rps will almost always have chapters that are of high importance, they are otherwise neverending, open-ended stories where everyone has a role to play, hence the name 'role-playing'. If you join seeking to just totally end the story, you will probably, in fact likely, god-mod or Powerplay.

3) God-Modding and Powerplaying

God-Modding is, in essence, acting like a god. This could be in any number of ways: your character is overpowered, has no weakness, cannot be defeated, if you control other members' characters, etc. God-Modding is not only looked down upon, but can severely deteriorate your relationship with other members, and can even make the site look bad. God-modders, at least where I have been (and I've been around a LOT of places), are usually banned outright.

Powerplaying is very similiar to God-Modding. This is when you force hits on other peoples' characters, say you kill their character without their approval, killing a high number of people, even npcs, in a single post, imposing your character's superiority upon others without permission, etc. Powerplaying is often regarded as God-Modding, and will also usually see you to being banned fairly quickly.

4) RP Demonstration

When you are writing, try to be descriptive. Also, usually good rps will require you to write in 3rd person. Though your post doesn't necessarily have to be a clone of below, use it as an example if you're ever in a tight spot/mental block.

Lion observed with an indifferent look on his face as the two Sith dueled each-other. One was old and focused - obviously an experienced Master. The other was younger, brash and fiery - perhaps the aspiring Apprentice of the more experienced warrior. As the younger hopeful slashed wildly with the crimson blade of his lightsaber, the old veteran simply leapt upward and, in a slightly bewildering display of athletic ability, spun around and slammed his left boot into the young man's jaw.

The Apprentice was repelled several feet away from his Master. He looked up with a glare of genuine hatred. Would it control him, or would he use it? Lion had seen the test so many times before, a trial of will. Whether you will control or be controlled - even he had once failed, but he had learned from his mistake. After-all, his Master would have simply killed him had he not.

Thus the young Apprentice realized his mistake, and in the wake of the chilling breeze, he became calm. He focused, turning his aggression into a calm, collected plan. Lion, however, was disappointed. Whether he knew it or not, the Apprentice had just failed again. A Sith would have turned the anger into focus, and used it to propel him to victory, but the student had relenquished it, choosing instead a calm, stoic posture. He had done it like a Jedi...

Try to make your posts at least a paragraph or two long. However, if it is a simple matter, or if you are low on time, then feel free to be straight and to the point, just don't do this all too often...
Isaac nodded, eager to fight in the fast-approaching battle...

God-Modding is an easy thing to succumb to, as you will soon learn if you do not watch your words and your work carefully. The following type of post should be avoided if at all possible...
Darth Reign stared down Danika fiercely. If she would not come peacefully then he would kill her. He raised his hand and choked her through the Force before she could even move. He then proceeded to slam her against a wall, and then unleashed a torrent of blue lightning upon the poor girl. She fell to the ground, steam rising from her tattered uniform. Reign smirked and then continued on, killing her had made him stronger...

5) Have Fun

Perhaps the easiest but most overlooked rule is to have fun. Converse with people, make friends, and do what you do best. Whether you're a warrior striving for glory or just a smuggler looking to earn his pay before a bounty finds it's place upon his skull, go out and explore the Galaxy. And most of all remember, the Force will Always be With You...
