After watching [Super Best Friends play KOTOR] they posed a much cooler idea for why Sith lightsabers are red; rather than them being manufactured (and always red as a result) it seems like a much cooler and much more Dark Side-like to have red crystals be the core of developing Kinrath spiders while they're still in their eggs.
The idea would be that Kinrath spiders - or similar creatures on any world with Lightsaber Crystals occurring naturally - would form their eggs around a crystal so that the warmth helps make the young strong and powerful. A light side user would never kill an unborn creature just to get a life-infused lightsaber crystal even if it is potentially a stronger crystal for it. A Dark Side user, however, would specifically set out to do this and snuff out the growing life to get the essence infused crystal. The result is the blood red crystal and, thus, the red lightsaber.
The manufactured crystals can still be a thing, but this would allow for Dark Jedi who have no knowledge of this practice to still get the red lightsabers, and it feels a lot more evil which fits the Dark Side more.
