Overview of the New Republic

The New Republic is the successor to the Galactic Republic. The Charter of the New Republic was ratified by the Galactic Senate in a session in Welona, 19 BBY. The foundation of the New Republic was pushed by the Reformist faction of the Galactic Senate lead by Senator (Esseless) Lorn Inel. Senator Inel called for a formal Vote of No Confidence in Supreme Chancellor Tam Cinadra who succeeded Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine; it succeeded and Tam was no longer the Supreme Chancellor.

Senator Inel called for the ratification of the Charter of the New Republic and the vote passed the Galactic Senate and the Galactic Republic became the New Republic.

Chief of State

The overall leader of the New Republic and its highest elected official, the Chief of State doubles as President of the New Republic Senate and the Commander-in-Chief of the New Republic Defense Force. The Chief of State is elected by a majority + 1 vote of the New Republic Senate.

The name of the apparatus that surrounds the Chief of State is the "Office of the Chief of State" and is comprised of a number of bodies that assist the New Republic's leader. Notable components of the Office of the Chief of State: Public Affairs Office (Responsible for the public information of the Chief of State and the New Republic).

New Republic High Council

The New Republic High Council makes up the inner circle of advisory leadership to the Chief of State. The New Republic High Council advises the Chief of State on all matters of state and is an unnumbered, appointed executive body of the New Republic. One notable impact of the new Charter of the New Republic is that the Jedi are permitted to be Councilors of the New Republic High Council.

Ministries of the New Republic

The ministries of the New Republic make up the body of executives that assist the Chief of State and the New Republic Senate in carrying out the day to day operations of the New Republic. Military forces of the New Republic

Overview of the New Republic Defense Forces

The New Republic inherited the military legacy of the Galactic Republic following the ratification of the Charter of the New Republic. The New Republic Defense Forces replaced the Grand Army of the Republic and the Republic Navy. The structure was totally overhauled to meet the growing threats facing the New Republic and the Galaxy at large. Upon foundation of the New Republic it was understood that the new government was facing a crisis of supply and economy, an issue which forced the military thinkers whom remained within the New Republic to better adapt to a more mobile, agile military structure. One of the most pressing issues was the outlawing of new clones and the usage of clone soldiers.

At the top of the New Republic Defense Forces is the Chief of State who is the Commander-in-Chief of the New Republic Defense Force, the ultimate authority within the New Republic military. There are two major leadership roles within the New Republic Defense Forces, the first being the civilian Minister of Defense who is responsible for the civil operations of the New Republic Defense Forces through the Ministry of Defense. The other, and arguably more important leader is the Supreme Commander of the New Republic Defense Forces, the military leader of the NRDF. The Supreme Commander is assisted by a professional military staff known as the New Republic High Command, to which they serve at the head of. Underneath the New Republic High Command are several major commands which carry out the leadership functions of the NRDF.

New Republic Special Forces and Clone Forces

New Republic Special Forces are underneath the command of the New Republic Special Forces Command and the Chief of Special Operations; they work closely with the New Republic Intelligence Service and other facets of the New Republic government. The Chief of Special Forces often reports directly to the Supreme Commander and the Chief of State. The New Republic Army, Marine Corps and Special Forces share similar command structures.

New Republic Special Forces are a merging of many units, formations and specialized agencies that existed under the Galactic Republic. Many local planetary defense forces, system and sector units were forced to integrate their forces into the New Republic Defense Forces following the formation of the New Republic. This provided the New Republic High Command with the opportunity to seek out and retain the best of the best from across New Republic space.

Structure of the New Republic Special Forces

  • Division - Underneath Special Forces Command are 10 divisions, one of them is entirely related to command functions and is the cadre of staff that surrounds the Chief of Special Operations.
  • Regiment - Regiments are comprised of 3 to 6 companies (with four being the norm), they were commanded by a Colonel or sometimes a Major. Each Regiment within a division consists of a specialist type, this is uniform across the New Republic.
  • Company - Companies consisted of 5 platoons and were commanded by a Major or a Captain. They are identified by Aurabesh letters (i.e. Aurek Company, Besh Company, Cresh Company, etc) and are further divided into "Order Companies" which are comprised of a single specialist type or "Taskforce Companies" which are multi-specialist companies.
  • Platoon - Platoons consisted of 4 squads and were commanded by a Lieutenant, they used numbers to designate them.
  • Squad - Squads consisted of 5 to 15 troops and were commanded by a Sergeant. They are designated by color or number and traditionally consist of a single specialist type, but multi-specialist squads were not uncommon.

Regiments of the New Republic Special Forces

  • 1st Regiment (SpecForce SpaceOps Regiment) - The first regiment in each division is known as "SpaceOps" also called "SpecForce Marines" and are highly trained New Republic Marines who are charged with combat aboard ships.
  • 2nd Regiment (SpecForce Pathfingers) - The second regiment in each division is known as "Pathfinders" and are trained with deep reconnaissance, the formation of beachheads, clandestine drops into enemy territory and holding territory until reinforcements arrive. They also served a scout function.
  • 3rd Regiment (SpecForce Urban Combat Specialist) - The third regiment in each division is known as "Urban Combat Specialist" and these soldiers focus on urban-based combat.
  • 4th Regiment (SpecForce Wilderness Fighters - The fourth regiment in each division are known as "Wilderness Fighters" and are trained to operate in any number of dangerous, extreme or hazardous environments.
  • 5th Regiment (SpecForce Infiltartors) - The fifth regiment in each division are known as the "SpecForce Infiltrators" or just "Infiltrators" are the New Republic's military-based spies and secret agents on the ground. They work very closely to provide information to New Republic Intelligence.
  • 6th Regiment (SpecForce Heavy Weapon Specialist) - The sixth regiment in each division is known as the "Heavy Weapon Specialist" are focused on a wide array of special weapons, heavy weapons and explosives.
  • 7th Regiment (SpecForce Technicians) - The seventh regiment in each division is dedicated to technical assistance. Known as "SpecForce Technicians", they are the catch all for all the support services required for the division. While known generally as "SpecForce Technicians", there were sub-specialties such as SpecForce Drivers and Pilots, SpecForce Scanner-Communitication Operators, SpecForce Interrogators, SpecForce Procurement Specialist and others.

New Republic Clone Forces

Following the announcement of the New Republic and the ratification of the Charter of the New Republic the Clones were given options. They could either retire, the New Republic providing them pensions and allotments of land or territory, they could move into non-combat roles or they could continue to serve the New Republic. Nearly 75% of the Clone Troopers decided to remain in active service, another 20% decided to move in military, security and intelligence roles that were non-combat or training related. 5% decided to retire and had their selection of planets, many of them deciding to return to planets that they fought on if they were in New Republic space or forming colonies of former Clone Troopers.

The New Republic Clone Forces (NRCF) retained Jedi serving as General's due to the close relationship that many Clone Troopers and Jedi held; this also permitted the Jedi to continue to serve the New Republic as peacekeepers should they have the desire to do so. The NRCF trimmed the number of specialized Clone units to better meet the needs of the New Republic.

Existing Clone specializations: Clone Commandos (assigned to the Special Operations Brigade) | Advanced Recon Force Scout Trooper (assigned largely to the 41st Elite Legion) | Galactic Marines (assigned entirely to the 21st Nova Corps | Advanced Recon Commandos (ARCs) | Clone Paratroopers (assigned almost exclusively to the 7th Sky Corps)

Security and intelligence forces of the New Republic

The New Republic security and intelligence apparatus is comprised of two primary organizations: the domestic, quasi-law enforcement New Republic Security Forces and the catch-all New Republic Intelligence Service. The New Republic Intelligence Service, commonly known as NRI, is responsible for the vast majority of intelligence operations within the New Republic but is largely focused on threats that are military or "foreign" in nature. The New Republic Security Forces work hand-in-hand with the Ministry of Justice and the Sector Rangers to act as a New Republic-wide law enforcement agency, focused on domestic intelligence and counter-intelligence.

Sector Rangers are sector-based law enforcement officials tasked with hunting down criminals within their respective sectors.

Sector Rangers answer to Sector Ranger Central Command which is responsible for the operations and personnel. Sector Rangers may become Special Enforcement Officers (SEOs) and are granted wider authority to pursue suspects/criminals across multiple sectors.
