Basic Information

Name: Dakdill Shihar
-- Alias(s): Dak
Homeworld: Hynestia
Species: Human
Age: 57
Gender: Male
Faction: Jedi
-- Rank: Knight

Appearance: Dak stands at 172cm (5'8") tall and weighs 88 kg (195lbs). He has a pretty square build with shoulders and hips being about the same width, giving the impression of more weight than he carries and making him seem a bit bigger over all at a glance. His hair is brown and cut short, a bit longer on top, and mostly dark chestnut brown with some grey starting to pepper in. His beard is similarly dark brown but peppered with grey and kept trim on the sides and longer around the chin.

Personality and Traits

Personality: Dakdill "Dak" Shihar is a calm and thoughtful man. Having been following the Force his whole life, he has reached a zen state of mind where most, if not all, of the problems he might face in life have already been decided by the Force; all he need do is follow its guiding hand. As such, he's not prone to worrying or contemplating the weights of consequences.

Strengths:
  • Brave - Jak is obedient to the Force and trusts in it, as such no amount of danger nor even the poorest of odds will lead him to hesitate or back down in fear when the Force guides him.
  • Compassionate - As a Jedi, Jak is naturally compassionate for other beings, and through that compassion the Force guides him.
  • Curious - There is more to life and the universe than what can be seen and sensed, and unless there's good reason not to learn or discover something new Dak is very likely to investigate something that catches his interest.
  • Forgiving - Grudges are not natural and the Force does not remember past sins. There is only the present.
  • Honest - Deceit is a tenant of the Dark Side and there is no room for a Jedi to lie to others except where the Force wills it.
  • Kind - Dak does not feel the need to be cruel or aggressive to anyone. Even if attacked he will avoid combat and try to find the source of the aggression and diffuse the situation.
  • Perseverant - The force is with Dak and as long as it guides his hand he will never stop following its call.
Weaknesses:
  • Dependant - Dak is utterly dependent on the Force and has little free will of his own. If he does not feel the guidance of the Force he will not make a decision.
  • Gullible - Dak has a rather simple view of the galaxy and can be easily deceived, provided the Force does not expose the intentions of the deceiver.
  • Impious - Despite being a Jedi and an ardent practitioner of the Light Side of the Force, Dak has a somewhat Grey view on it; the Force not belonging to any one or to any group like the Jedi or Sith, but belonging to all life.
  • Indifferent - Dak follows the guidance of the Force, and if he does not feel it swaying him to help others, even in the most dire need with the least needed effort, he won't bother.
  • Naive - The galaxy is simple to Dak, so some of the complexities and intricacies go right over his head.
  • Pacifist - Dak refuses to give into violence, no matter the circumstance. Even his lightsaber is strictly for training and meditative purposes, and limited defensive use.
  • Predictable - Dak follows a rather simple and borderline stereotypical Jedi lifestyle, so anyone well versed in the Jedi ways will always be able to count on Dak to follow those ways

History

History: Dak was born in the waning years of the Galactic Civil War and among the earliest recruits into Skywalker's New Jedi Order, joining the Praxeum on Yavin 4. Dak took to the Jedi training like a fish to water, immersing himself in the Force as he grew and developed. Unlike many of his fellow trainees, Dak never took much to the combative side of Jedi training and lacked sorely in lightsaber skills. He never took part in any of the wars that followed and was often considered a disappointment to many non-Jedi who turned to him when he was the only Jedi around.

When Yavin was attacked by the Second Imperium, Dak was in charge of leading the younglings at the temple into the secure shelter until the Republic arrived to provide an escape route. Under the bombing runs of the TIE Stealth Bombers he acted as a glimmer of hope and calm for the children and kept the young trainees from panicking and giving in to fear.

The invasion of the Yuuzhan Vong saw a resurgence of galactic trust and dependence on the Jedi and on Skywalker's New Jedi Order. The attack by the Vong on Yavin IV forced Dak from his longtime home. He helped to lead the younglings and Padawans out into the jungles of Yavin IV until they managed to escape the moon to the academy in the Maw.

Being a non-combatant Jedi, Dak remained at the Jedi Academy established at the Maw for the majority of the Yuuzhan Vong War, only being summoned away for a couple of occasions when a soft hand was required. One such instance was when the Republic sought to open back channels with the Hutts, which led Dak to spend a few days on Nar Shaddaa to assist with negotiating a deal that would allow the Hutts to keep faith with the Republic but not endanger their stance with the Vong. He also went to Ithor during the temporary ceasefire to help the Republic evacuate the people before the Vong slaughtered them. But perhaps his greatest contribution to the war was the part he played in helping the Galactic Alliance reach an agreement with Pellaeon of the Imperial Remnant to help them navigate the Unknown Regions after the Battle of Yaga Minor.

After the Yuuzhan Vong War, Dak went to Ossus to help with the new Jedi Academy. There, he witnessed Skywalker becoming the Grand Master. There, he also found himself in the tense position of keeping the Academy safe and 'in line' under the Galactic Alliance Guard when the boot dropped following the fall of Jacen Solo. When the attack finally came, Dak defended the younglings and Padawans from the Guard soldiers until they could escape to Endor. During the escape he was severely wounded and now walks with a permanent limp.

After the Second Galactic Civil War, Dak went with the younger students to Shedu Maad to help them transition to the new Academy. He remained there for many years, as the surge of Padawans to the Shedu Maad Academy and the few nights there that were not pulled away by the war.

These days he still prefers to train younglings and Padawans, but the tension of the Galactic political climate has been giving him more and more missions of peace keeping where his experience in matters of diplomacy are far more valuable than any combat prowess.

Hey Asteroid, I really like what you have here!

For characters starting at something other than an initiate rank (Padawan, etc) we'd like to see a more detailed biography illustrating the events that helped shape them into who they are now. The logic being that a Padawan might not have a lot of life experiences, where as a Jedi Knight - especially one well in his 50s! - or even Jedi Master would have more backstory to elaborate on.

That said, I love the effort you put in to the personality. Once you've elaborated on his history, tag me and I'll take another look. I'm looking forward to reading it!

Looks great, approved!
