How To: Character Creation

1. Character Creation Rules


Your first step in becoming part of a thriving role-play community is creating a character. Before posting in The Galaxy section, you need to have an approved character. We ask that all members use correct grammar in their profile and in the general role-play to help the community better understand you and what you are asking to achieve.
  1. For a comprehensive list of the Community Rules you can check the link here.
  2. Character Approval: The process is outlined in this topic, the How To: Character Creation. The Staff will always tell you the reason why a character cannot be accepted, and you will always be given the opportunity to make your case. Should you raise a valid point, the Staff can compromise. However, please understand that the Staff makes the final decision, and, should it come to that, the necessary corrections must be made;
  3. Minimum Character Age: Characters must be a minimum of 21 years old, or species equivalent.
  4. Canon Bloodlines: Not permitted without administrative approval.
  5. Leading Multiple Factions: While writers can create characters in any faction of their choice, a character may not hold a significant leadership role in multiple factions all at once (e.g. The Galactic Emperor may not be the Jedi Grandmaster).
  6. Character Death: Under normal circumstances, a character may not be killed without the expressed permission of the character's writer. However, if a character is in a position that leaves no realistic opportunity for escape, the character may be killed. The manner of death should be discussed and agreed upon by the writers involved beforehand.
  7. Character Revival: A character may not be revived without the Staff's permission. One isn't merely revived out of the dead daily, you know. The only exception to this rule is if the character has the necessary Force abilities or equipment to do so.
  8. Player-created Factions: At this time player-created factions and groups are currently unavailable for portrayal (i.e. one's own Force user order, a private army, a family "business" that's actually a gang, etc.) If you have an idea you would like to propose regarding factions/sub-factions feel free to bring it to our attention on Discord and we will discuss it.

To change your username, please submit a request here.
To create a faction or change between factions, please submit a request here.

3. Templates and profile requirements


We ask that players use either the Basic Character Template or the Advanced Character Template. This can be done two ways, you can copy-paste from the post below this one underneath the "Basic Character Template" header or when you start a new thread and see the the toolbar that has all the nifty ways to edit and customize your post, you go the clipboard to the right of the cog wheel and select "Basic Character Template" and it will automatically insert it into your post.

4. Profile and character updates


Writers can edit their character profiles at any time. While approved applications are checked by the Staff, it's your responsibility to keep track of the changes. After making changes, please post a list of the updated items as a new response to your original application.

5. Secondary characters and "companion" characters


Star Wars: Galaxy makes no restriction on the character limit that a writer may have. We only simply ask that you keep the number limited to what you feel you can write. We've all had those moments where we've created a character and had ideas and we simply have to put the character on the shelf because we don't want to write anymore. Writers may ask the Community Team to make a character inactive which simply means the character gets shelved for the time being, or the writer may just choose not to write it anymore.

Writers who wish to create background, support or "crew" or "team" members will note that these are considered to be "Companion" characters; sometimes called "NPCs" by some writers. Companion characters are meant to either serve as background characters, supporting a specific faction or plot, serving as crew, team members in a group, a ship, etc.

6. Starting ranks


New Republic and Jedi Order


For further information regarding the New Republic and Jedi Order please click respective faction names.
  • Jedi Order- Jedi Knight (Players can start as a Jedi Padawan if they wish or players can use the Advanced Character Template to try their hand at getting approved for a Jedi Master)
    • Note: Use the Jedi Rank Progression Guide to learn about the quality character development expected of writers for rank progression, once you've started your character's journey.
  • New Republic Defense Forces
    • New Republic Navy/New Republic Defense Fleet - Captain (Likely to command a vessel smaller than a Venator-class)[/B]
    • New Republic Starfighter Corps - Commander (Commands a Squadron of 12 starfighters)
    • New Republic Army/Marine Corps - Captain (Commands a Company of 144 soldiers)
    • New Republic Clone Forces - Captain (Commands a Company of 144 Clone Troopers)
    • New Republic Special Forces - Lieutenant (Commands a Platoon of 4 Squads)

Sith Confederacy


For further information regarding the Sith Confederacy please click faction name.
  • Sith Confederacy military
    • Sith Navy - Captain (Likely to command a vessel smaller than a Providence-class)
    • Separatist Droid Army - Players are permitted to play as a droid, however we note that playing as a droid you'd be restricted to playing on of the more advanced AI droids that the Separatist Droid Army possesses such as the BX-series, the Super Tactical Droids or the T-series.
    • Separatist Army (Sentients) - Players who decide to use some non-droid species start at the rank of Captain and similar to their droid counterparts command a Company of droids and associated material.
  • Sith - The announcement of the Sith Confederacy has prompted the founding of a semi-formal Sith Academy on Jabiim, a former Dark Acolyte training center. Writers wishing to make Sith characters are likely to be former Dark Acolytes, perhaps the handful of former or "Fallen" Jedi. Those wishing to start as a Sith can either select to start as a Sith Acolyte who is nearing the end of their training or a full fledged Sith Apprentice who has finished their training and awaiting a Sith master.

Galactic Empire


For further information regarding the Galactic Empire please click the faction name.
  • Imperial military
    • Imperial Navy- Senior Commander (Commander) or Senior Captain (Captain) (Commands a vessel smaller than an Imperial I-class Star Destroyer)
      • Imperial Starfighter Corps - Squadron Leader (Flight Captain; commands a Squadron of 12 starfighters)
    • Imperial Army - Captain (Commands an Imperial Army Company of 160 Imperial Army Troopers)
    • Imperial Stormtrooper Corps - Captain (commands a Stormtrooper Company of 200 Stormtroopers)
  • Imperial security, intelligence and other

Other factions


  • Mandalorians Clans
    • True Mandalorians and Death Watch - Please note that these two Mandalorians groups do not traditionally utilize a firm rank structure, they are generally considered to be "Mandalorian Warriors" of some sort.
    • True Mandalorian Union - Please consult the writer "Silver" if interested.
  • Fringe (Hutts, Black Sun, etc.)
    • Please note that the rank and titles within various organizations differ, if you are interested in participating in a criminal group or fringe group you can create your profile and we'll consult each other during the character approval process.
  • Independent Jedi/Dark Jedi/"Sith"
    • Please note that your power level regardless of "title" would be that of a Jedi Knight or if approved via using the Advanced OC Character Template, Jedi Master.

7. Restricted Species


The following species are currently unplayable due to the detrimental impact they have had and/or may have upon the open and free creative writing environment of SW:G:

Please note to include a lightsaber form and starting at the rank of Practitioner for Jedi Knights/Dark Jedi Knights and Learner for Jedi Padawans/Dark Jedi Apprentices.

Independent Force User characters


Independent force users, generally those outside of the Jedi Order and those not taken in underneath the Dark Acolytes of the Confederacy have less formal training unless they were a member of a specific Force order or possessed a "master". Generally users who are independent force users can pick and choose which force powers that they have access to but should generally retain the same as the Jedi Order or Former Jedi Order, please note that they are generally "weaker" in most areas and might excel in some due to lack of formalized training especially during this time period.
